We have been using the Nikon-Ci for almost 9 years now. The mercury lamp was previously replaced at around 500 hours. This time, we used it until it reached nearly 800 hours. The signal has become dim, and dust has accumulated to the point where the heat cooler fan is starting to overload. Here is a picture showing a normal mercury lamp with no swelling at the glass ampule. Please see the second picture below for comparison. Below is the mercury lamp with a swollen glass ampule due to longer usage (pointed by skrewdriver).
