Okinawa Microscopy Workshop 2024 (Extremely Useful Materials)

Okinawa Microscopy Workshop 2024 I had the incredible opportunity to attend the microscopy workshop at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology . I was immersed in a wealth of microscopy knowledge and bioimage data analysis. The instructors from AIC Janelia HHMI , the Neuroscience Microscopy Core Facility at UNC , and the Image Facility at OIST were true experts, enthusiastically sharing their experiences in microscopy, bioimage analysis, and scientific integrity. They even encouraged us to share the teaching materials to help grow the bioimage community within Southeast Asia! I feel so fortunate to have been selected as a participant – I hear the competition was fierce! Workshop participants came from all across Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines) and nearly every region of Japan! The atmosphere was dynamic, productive, and occasionally a bit stressful as we worked to complete our assignments. https://www.aicjanelia

[Recommend to Read] A Postdoctoral Training Program in Bioimage Analysis

Image
I cannot download the full text, but the pre-prine version is freely available. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11118354/ The tenure track is very limited, thus generating a post-doc crisis in which the majority cannot compete for the tenure track. They are looking for alternative career paths and focusing in-depth on their technical skill sets. Consequently, the group launched post-doc training on bioimage analysis, where this technique becomes more important in several industries as well as in academic environments, like core facilities. As of now, I don't see a real core facility in Thailand, only the custodians who take care of instruments but don't have in-depth knowledge of the technical part as well as data analysis related to the particular instruments.
